About Jalaram Bapa:

Jalaram Bapa, also called Bapa (Gujarati: બાપા), was a Hindu saint from Gujarat, India. He lived from 4 November 1799 (Samvat 1856) to 23 February 1881 (Samvat 1937). One week after the Hindu holiday of Diwali, which honors his Iṣṭa devata Lord Rama, he was born on November 4, 1799. Though his words and miracles have spread throughout India and many other nations, he is primarily worshiped in Gujarat. In Hinduism, Thursday is the day connected to him. Jalaram Bapa is typically seen wearing white and holding a tulsi mala in his right hand and a stick in his left. He consistently wears plain clothing to represent his purity.

Life Of Jalaram Bapa:

On the seventh day of the Kartika (Shukla Paksha) month in the year 1799, Jalaram Bapa was born in Virpur, in the district of Rajkot in Gujarat, India. His mother, Rajbai Thakkar, was a member of the Lohana dynasty, and his father was Pradhan Thakkar. He was a follower of Rama, the Hindu god.

However, Jalaram Bapa remained to manage his father’s business since he was unwilling to lead a householder’s life. He spent most of his time tending to pilgrims, sadhus, and saints. After he distanced himself from his father’s business, Jalaram Bapa and his spouse Virbai were invited to reside in the home of their uncle Valjibhai.

Soon after returning from a visit to Hindu holy sites at the age of eighteen, Jalaram Bapa was accepted as a disciple by Bhoja Bhagat of Fatehpur. Jalaram’s Guru Bhojalram bestowed upon him the “Guru Mantra” and japa mala in the name of Rama. With the approval of his guru, he established “Sadavrat,” a feeding facility where the poor, sadhus, and saints could always find food.

A sadhu who visited his home one day gave him a statue of Lord Rama and told him that Hanuman, the monkey god and one of Rama’s followers, would arrive shortly after. After installing Rama as the family god, Jalaram Bapa saw an autonomous Hanuman deity emerge from the dirt a few days later.

Additionally, the gods of Rama’s brother Lakshmana and consort Sita made an appearance. A miraculous occurrence caused the grain storage container at Jalaram’s home to become endless. Later, he was joined in his efforts to benefit humanity by additional followers and villagers.

His reputation as a divine manifestation quickly grew. Jalaram served all visitors to Virpur, regardless of their caste, creed, or religion—whether they were Muslims or Hindus. This tradition of feeding people continues to this day in Virpur.

Once upon a time, a tailor by the name of Haraji sought his remedy from him for a terrible stomach ailment. Haraji was healed after Jalaram Bapa prayed to God. Falling at Jalaram Bapa’s feet, he called him Bapa. He was referred to as Jalaram Bapa ever since.

As word of his fame grew, people began to come to him for help with illnesses and other issues. When Jalaram Bapa prayed for them in the name of Rama, wonders would occur. He took on disciples who were Muslims and Hindus alike. When Jamal, a wealthy Muslim merchant’s son, became ill in 1822, medical professionals lost all hope.

At that moment, Haraji shared his experience (parcha) with Jamal. According to his home, Jamal prayed that if his son’s illness is cured, he would give Jalaram Bapa forty tons of grain for sadavrat. After his son’s recovery, Jamal named Jalaram Bapa “Jalla so Allah” and went to his home with a cart full of grains.

Once upon a time, God instructed Jalaram to send Virbai to serve him in the guise of an elderly saint. After consulting her, Jalaram sent her the saint with her permission. However, the saint begged Virbai to wait for him until they had walked a few miles and arrived at a nearby woodland. She waited, but the saint never showed up. Rather, she overheard an Akashwani say that it was merely to gauge the couple’s hospitality. The saint left Virbai with a wooden stick and a jholi (cloth bag) before vanishing. Following the celestial voice’s instructions, Virbai went back to Jalaram with Stick and Jholi. Both the Stick and the Jholi are currently on display in a glass enclosure at Virpur.

Family of Jalaram Bapa

Virbai and Jalaram Bapa were married, and their daughter Jamnaben was born. Shri Jalaram Bapa took in Jamnaben’s grandson Harirambhai as an adopted kid. Giridhar Bapa, a direct descendant of Jalaram Bapa, and his son Jaisukhram Bapa currently lead the gadi of the esteemed Jalaram Bapa’s Virpur shrine.

Virpur (Village Of Jalaram Bapas):

It’s where Shree Jalaram Bapa works.Virpur is home to Jalaram Bapa’s major shrine. The cluster of houses where Jalaram lived throughout his lifetime is actually the shrine. The shrine contains Jalaram’s possessions as well as the gods he adored, including Hanuman, Sita, Rama, and Lakshamana. Additionally, it displays the Jholi and Danda, which are attributed to God. However, the Jalaram Bapa picture is the main draw.

Additionally, there is a real black-and-white picture of Jalaram Bapa that was taken the year before he passed away. The temple is unique in the world since, as of 9 February 2000, it has not taken in any offerings.

Jalaram Jayanti  (Birth Day of Jalaram Bapa)

On the seventh day of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartika, people commemorate Jalaram Jayanti, the birthday of Jalaram Bapa. On the seventh day after Diwali, it falls. Prasad, or food, is provided to devotees on this day. Millions of followers travel to Virpur on this day to pay their respects to the saint and partake in prasad, primarily consisting of khichdi with bundi and the well-known farsan dish Ganthiya. There is a massive fair and festival there on the occasion. All Jalaram temples located in India and outside celebrate Jalaram Jayanti with festivities where devotees come to pay their obeisance and participate in prasad.
